CGTP-IN National March “For a left-wing and sovereign policy”

In a National March that took place last November 21-25th, called by the General Confederation of Portuguese Workers (CGTP-IN), thousands of workers demonstrated throughout the country, showing their complete indignation towards the right-wing policies of the PSD/CDS government that is only exploiting and impoverishing the country.

Statement by the Central Committee of the PCP - Meeting of 19th October 2014

The Central Committee of the PCP, meeting on October 19, 2014, analysed the country’s economic, social and political situation, aspects of the international situation, assessed the development of the action with the objective of a rupture with the right-wing policy and the materialisation of a patriotic and left-wing alternative, the intensification of the mass struggle and the strengthening of the Party and defined the guidelines and tasks for its dynamization.

Statement of the PCP Central Committee of June 29th - 30th, 2014

The Central Committee of PCP, in its June 29th-30th 2014 meeting , analyzed the country's economic, social and political situation, the deeply damaging consequences of the Government's right-wing policy and action, as well as its confrontation with the Constitution of the Republic; evaluated the development of the worker's and people's struggle; appreciated aspects of the international and European Union situation; and defined guidelines for political initiative, the struggle for achieving a patriotic and left-wing alternative and the reinforcement of the Party.

Statement of the PCP Central Committee of May 27th, 2014

The Central Committee of the PCP met on May 27, 2014, and assessed the results of the elections for the European Parliament as well as their political consequences; assessed the most relevant aspects of the country's economic and social situation and the consequences of the Troika's policies, the campaign of mystification surrounding the so-called “clean exit” and the new developments in the government's political offensive; assessed the workers' struggle and its prospects; defined the Party's main lines of work, regarding political initiatives, the struggle to materialize an alternative, patriotic and left-wing policy, and the strengthening of the [Party] organization.

On the election results for the European Parliament

The increase in the dimension and electoral influence of CDU and the increase in the number of seats with the election of a third MP (even more important since it was gained despite the reduction of the total number of Portuguese MPs) represents one of the most significant electoral successes of CDU for the European Parliament, the most significant in the last 25 years.

1. The April Revolution constituted the implementation of the will of the Portuguese people, an affirmation of freedom, social emancipation and national independence.

Statement by the PCP Central Committee of March 24, 2014

The Central Committee meeting on March 24, 2014, examined aspects of the national situation, the consequences resulting from the implementation of the State Budget for 2014 and reaffirmed the mass struggle as the key factor to combat the ongoing offensive. The Central Committee, which also examined aspects of the international situation, evaluated the work to prepare the European Parliament elections and reaffirmed their importance as an opportunity, with the strengthening of CDU, to contribute to defeat the current government, for a rupture with the right-wing policy and to defend the interests of the people and the country.
