The US has been stepping up its interference, blackmail and intimidation actions against various countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, such as Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Nicaragua and Venezuela.
In this context, the deployment of significant US offensive military means near the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the recurring provocative actions carried out by the US in the Caribbean Sea represent a serious threat to the sovereignty and rights of the Latin American and Caribbean peoples and to peace and security in the region.
Equally serious is the scandalous acknowledgement by the Trump administration of the “authorisation” of CIA operations against Venezuela, along with the explicit admission of the possibility of aggression against this country, under some alleged pretext, used to conceal the real intentions of imposing domination and plunder by the US.
The escalation of threats of intervention and subversive action by US imperialism against Venezuela represent the continuation, now by military means, of the policy of interference, blockade and destabilisation that imperialism has been pursuing for decades with a view to defeating the Bolivarian process and what it represents for the Venezuelan people, as well as for the peoples of the whole world, of affirmation of sovereignty, defence of rights and choice of a progressive path.
The scandalous awarding of the long-discredited “Nobel Peace prize” to a figure with a sinister anti-democratic record, such as Corina Machado, is yet another shameful manoeuvre that is contrary to Peace and not only is part of, but also constitutes an incentive for the escalation of provocations and interventionist threats by US imperialism , which openly violates the principles of the UN Charter and international law.
Deploring the Portuguese Government's silence in view of the serious threats by the US against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and other Latin American and Caribbean states, the PCP considers that it should adopt a position consistent with the principles of the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic and condemn the blatant violation of international law by the US.
The PCP denounces and condemns the serious and unacceptable blackmails, threats and warmongering actions by the Trump administration against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and other Latin American and Caribbean states, such as Colombia, which are part of the US imperialist agenda to impose its domination over this region.
Reiterating the demand for an end to threats, provocations and hostile actions by the US, the PCP reaffirms its solidarity with Bolivarian Venezuela and the struggle of the Venezuelan people in defence of their homeland, as well as with the struggle of the Cuban, Colombian, Nicaraguan, Brazilian and other Latin American and Caribbean peoples for national sovereignty and independence, Peace and social progress.
